Yes, I'm behind. I should have hit 8,000 words today, but I've only just passed 4,000. Life kind of got in the way. Still, there's 92 days to go and plenty of time to catch up.
When I started 100k in 100 Days I had every intention of re-writing my NaNoWriMo novel, but ended up being seduced by the idea of writing somethng new. Only thing was, I didn't know what.
My collection of words includes the starting paragraphs of two different stories before hitting on the one I'm actually writing now. I quickly created some characters and just started writing, with absolutely no idea where I was going. Not only was I in the middle of a literary maze without a map, but I was stumbling around in the dark too.
Writing like that doesn't worry me too much. I'm not a planner, I never have been, so I'm quite used to stumbling around that hedge maze. But finally, some ideas are starting to take shape in my head, and my characters seem to be actually heading somewhere rather than just milling around the story waiting for me to tell them what to do. It's quite exciting watching it slowly solidify. I can't wait to see where it goes to.
I found your blog through Alex J. Cavanaugh and the blogfest list. I started late!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how you can pull a story out of the air when all that was started with was a paragragh? Imagination is your greatest resource.
Good luck on your 100k in 100 days!
Karen
Here's hoping those ideas and writings bear some fruit for you.
ReplyDeleteI know the feeling Angeline! I'm trying to match my own writing goals - on a streak right now, but who knows when life might change that for me. I think the more important thing is to keep the ideas flowing, which it sounds like you've definitely got! Developing a new idea is so fun - best of luck. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! That's a lot of writing in 100 days, but certainly not an impossibility.
ReplyDeleteI wish you good luck with catching up on 100k in 100 days. I'm writing at a much slower pace lately - my word count target for January is 10,000 words for sample chapters of 'The Scroll', which gives me time to worry about critiquing and slushpile reading and revision lessons and all that other wonderful stuff. (Where's the sarcastic smiley when you need one? ;) )
ReplyDeleteI really should gear up and tackle something similar myself, though I'd have to call it "100k of words edited in 100 days." Which is how long knocking my knew draft into shape for beta readers will probably take.
ReplyDeleteI'm also really looking forward to starting something new - there's nothing like the feeling of bumbling around in that labyrinth then catching hold of that golden thread...
