Success Comes in Purple

And there you have it; 50,000 words on November 25th. I have never finished this early before, and I put it all down to the tireless and constant run of word wars that were hosted in our region's NaNoWriMo chatroom. Without those guys furiously writing along with me, I wouldn't be breathing this huge sigh of relief and celebrating with fish and chips.

Not only did I enjoy these word wars online, but also in a quiet corner of a local pub with some of my fellow NaNoers. We've not really run write-ins in previous years, but they really were fantastically fun.

Sometimes writing can feel like the loneliest thing in the world. You're wrapped tightly inside a world of your own creation; one that, at this point, no one else shares, or knows like you do. Your characters are your best friends and your family; but no one else knows them. But when you're sat with other writers around you, all tapping away furiously, you realise that writing isn't something you have to do alone. Whether in person or online, there's a world of writers out there ready to meet you and share your love for words.

They'll be there to commiserate your failures and celebrate your triumphs, and they'll never stop encouraging you. And they'll never, ever tell you to give up on your dreams.

  1. I love your third paragraph in this post. It is SO true, and I really value that camaraderie. Congrats on NaNo!

  2. Congrats! Woot! Writing is lonely. I love my characters, too. They are great companions.

  3. Way to go! The write-ins sound great. We had some locally and I wasn't able to make any of them. I imagine sitting in a room full of tappity-tappity (or scribbling), with people occasionally looking off into space or doing weird things so they can visualize what it is they're trying to write.
