Today I was, as always, joking about the fact that I spent 3 years doing a totally useless degree (BA Hons Drama & Writing), when I was told that all degrees have their uses. I said "Well, maybe when I write the next Harry Potter..." and the reply was "Well just do it then."
I snorted to myself, thinking 'if only it was that easy'. I mean, it's not. Is it? It can't be, or everyone would be doing it. But then I think about all the evenings I spend slobbing about doing not very much at all, or all the effort I waste making up excuses not to write.
It's not that easy to write a best-selling book, but I'm certainly not putting all of my effort into trying.
Note to self: Must do better. Again.

I keep my lips sealed when it comes to talk about the usefulness of any degree...however...
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot easier for you to have a bestseller if you have a book. I'd almost say your odds are infinitely better ;-) Besides, you've got a fantastic voice, so get to it!
I know, I know! I really need some good prodding!
ReplyDeleteLOL so true! It won't sell a single copy if it's not written :)
ReplyDeleteMy book is written, and I am editing it. What I need to do is: focus on the book, take time off from so much blogging. But, I enjoy the contact and inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is such a distraction, but I figure at least it's writing, and at least it's writing about writing!
ReplyDeleteYou can't write a "bestseller." Write the best book you can. If people like it, it might become a bestseller, but you didn't do it. I don't think you have much control (you have a little) about the "bestselling" part.
